The Magic of Capturing Generations of Family
Woohoooo! I have joined the Grandparent Club! Becoming a “Nany-Ma” this year for the first time has me absolutely head over heels—there’s nothing quite like the love that blooms when you hold that first grand-baby in your arms! It’s INCREDIBLE! I am unapologetically and madly in love! I had been forewarned but wasn’t prepared for how smitten I would be with our sweet little grand-baby. Being in this new role has made me more sentimental that usual (ohh dear some may say!) and I’ve been reflecting on family, memory, and the beauty of preserving moments. It’s ignited a whole new love for those sweet intergenerational bonds—watching everyone light up around her melts my heart every time.
When I think about my mum, I wish I had more photos of her with my own boys when they were little. She passed away when they were just 2 and 5, and while I treasure every memory, having more of those moments captured would mean so much. The photos we do have bring her presence back into our lives in such a vivid way, like she’s still right here sharing our lives. These images aren’t just photos—they’re keepsakes that let us carry her with us. They bring to life the stories we share about her, making those memories more vivid for my sons, and now my grandchild.
There’s something so powerful and special about seeing the faces of the people who came before us, who loved us and shaped us in countless ways. To say they are precious heirlooms to have for our children to look back on someday is somewhat of an understatement.
I know ‘way back when’, there weren’t iPhones or digital cameras on hand. If they were lucky, they’d manage a few snaps on special occasions, but many of the day-to-day moments that make life sweet were never captured. And if someone was taking a picture, it was usually mum or dad, meaning they were often missing from those photos altogether. I bet you can identify with that mum!!
But the beauty of today is that we can capture these connections more easily than ever, and those images become priceless keepsakes as time goes on.
I know a lot of grandparents secretly feel the same way—wishing they had more of those simple, everyday photos with their families.
I just can't emphasize enough how passionate I am about intergenerational photos. Capturing moments with grandparents and grandbabies, as well as grandparents with their adult children—photos that include all the generations, has always been something I care about, but now, it means even more to me!
I now a lot of grandparents maybe aren’t used to being ‘in’ a professional photography session, and maybe worry about all the things to do with getting in front of the camera, but I think if they knew it would be to fun, not at all awkward, and produce oh so very precious heirloom images,, they may just see the value. And so, to celebrate this joy of being a grandparent and create lasting memories for other families, I’m offering limited Grandparent Mini Sessions and Gift vouchers this Christmas. These sessions are an opportunity to capture beautiful, simple moments between your parents or grandparents with the little ones they adore. It’s about having grandparents, parents, and grandchildren all together in one frame—showcasing the love that spans generations.
It’s the perfect gift! The true gift that will keep on giving!
My hope is these photos will bring a smile to your face every time you see them, year after year. Let’s give our grandparents—and ourselves—the gift of memories to cherish forever.
